Spirituality can mean different things to different people. It could be a quest to discover one’s self for some or learning the complicated art of letting go for others. Whatever your purpose is, there are ways to nurture your spiritual self and increase your overall happiness! Wondering how to improve your spirituality? Here are some of the best ways to strengthen your spiritual core:
Know Your Intentions
The soul goes where destiny moves. You will only accomplish something if you know what you hope to achieve. To start your journey towards spiritual enlightenment, know your intentions, weed out guilty, superficial desires and discover your true intensions.
It is somewhat difficult to determine false from true intensions but you will discover the latter once you recognize the feelings that these intentions carry. Sense the feeling; understand the intent and soon you will know what your true intentions are! Once you discover your true intentions, set them high with the goal of inner growth.
Reinforce your Intentions Everyday
Most days we go through life and forget to remind ourselves of our true intentions. Make a habit out of reinforcing your intentions on the daily. You could write them down on your journal, say a little prayer or do yoga to find your center and focus on the self. By reinforcing your intentions every day, you are reminded of the reasons why you seek a higher level of spirituality.
Meditate
Here’s one way to calm the mind, soothe the spirit, and nurture spiritual growth: make a habit out of meditating daily. Daily meditation increases inner awareness and boosts spirituality. You can meditate the traditional way – sit in a quiet room, close your eyes, and focus the mind on the quietness – or try chanting, taking a walk in a quiet path, etc. Empty your mind of negative thoughts, focus on the quietness and find your center.
Do this every day for at least 15 minutes to relax and connect with the self. Regular meditation will help you find the inner peace you seek.
Give Selflessly
Giving to others selflessly, helping a person in need brings great joy because you made a connection with another soul. Giving without expecting anything in return helps strengthen the inner self and reinforce the spirituality of a person. Being kind and being selfless establishes a deeper connection with the world, generating and attracting positive vibrations.
Connect with Nature
Do you spend most of your day cooped up in the office, slaving away and letting the day go by? If you want to improve your spirituality, try spending a bit of your time outdoors and being close to nature.
Nature is connected to everything that’s good in this world. Everything from the ocean breeze to the birds chirping in the trees represents the divine powers in all their glory. Take it slow, breathe in fresh air and take in the sights. Go on a retreat, go on a hike or relax by the beach. All these activities will help you reconnect with nature and you will instantly feel good inside and out.
Respect Diversity
One must appreciate diversity and become more tolerant to grow as a person. While you shouldn’t let other’s opinions bring you down, do not shut out ideas and beliefs – even those that you don’t really agree to. Be a good listener, try to learn something new from every interaction, be open-minded. It’s better to respect each other’s differences than being upset about them. Do not waste your energy trying to convince others to believe in the same things that you do.
Be Kind
Showing a little kindness goes a long way. Do not judge others harshly and never hurl hurtful words that could break a spirit. Be kind to yourself too, forgive yourself, do not judge yourself harshly and always think of all the positive things that you have in your life. We all have our own battles to face every day. We could all use encouraging words and kindness. Make a conscious effort to live day by day in positivity to enhance spirituality and promote a stronger sense of self.
Let Go
Let go of all past hurts that burden the heart. Self-growth starts at liberating one’s self from the mistakes of the past and moving forward to the future. Don’t let your history affect the now and shape your future.
Do not be too hard on yourself, we all make mistakes. Take every mistake as a lesson and do not hesitate to let go. Apply the same thing to others; be forgiving to other people’s mistake. Just like you, everyone has his or her own struggles.
